Since the 1935 introduction of the first self-sticking label, adhesives manufacturers have developed an ever-wider range of pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) to meet specific requirements for a broadening array of applications. Today, the industry offers hundreds of different permanent, removable and repositionable PSAs to coat paper, cellophane, plastic film, foil and fabric, for use in countless end products. A basic understanding of PSAs can help you select the best adhesive among them for your specific application.

You’ll find the information you need in an article that Todd Hunt, our director of sales development, polymer, recently published in the 2013 third quarter issue of Converting Quarterly. “Understanding PSA technology for Optimal Tape, Label Application Benefits,” discusses the three basic types of PSAs, the different adhesive technologies and polymers used to produce various formulations and the three properties – peel, tack and shear – you want to consider when selecting an adhesive. The article also emphasizes the importance of considering end use in the selection process. Various surfaces demand specific adhesive properties.

Todd’s article also offers guidance for choosing the right adhesives manufacturer. Ideally, you want a company that has the expertise to guide you in adhesives selection. Check to make sure the company provides easy access to technical support and product testing to ensure that you have the right formulation, with the appropriate physical properties and performance characteristics for your application.

Franklin International has been around since the creation of that first self-sticking label, so you know we have the experience you want. More than that, we are fully willing and able to customize PSAs to your exact needs for optimum performance. We would be happy to see if we can help you procure the right adhesive for your application.
